Lakshmy Menon was born in Kolkata to Pandit Ramaswami Chatterjee, a historian and Pandit Ramananda Chatterjee, a noted classical singer. Lakshmy completed her schooling from Loreto Convent School in Kolkata. She did her graduation from Presidency College in Kolkata finishing with honours in History, then moved to Delhi to pursue law degree from University of Delhi.
She then got married to Anil Chatterjee who was working with The Statesman Group. Lakshmi Menon Chatterjee left journalism for television where she worked with Star News, Zoom TV and Zee News.
